What Matters Most

John 6:26-27 (TPT)

“Jesus replied, “Let me make this very clear, you came looking for me because I fed you by a miracle, not because you believe in me. Why would you strive for food that is perishable and not be passionate to seek the food of eternal life, which never spoils? I, the Son of Man, am ready to give you what matters most, for God the Father has destined me for this purpose.”

This interaction happened the day after Jesus fed the five thousand, and the crowds had followed Him to the other side of the lake. They had just seen Jesus do this amazing miracle the day before and they wanted to see more, but Jesus discerns that they’re still seeking the wrong thing, they’re missing the whole reason He came. They were looking for the next miracle instead of seeking what Jesus came to make a way for, a relationship with the Father, eternal life.

I think so often it’s easy to get caught up in this cycle of only coming into God’s presence when we need a miracle or breakthrough. Or often as a worship leader it is easy to fall into a pattern of only finding time away with God when we need to prepare for the next service we’re leading or the next song we’re writing. When all along God just wants our hearts, he just wants a relationship with his children.

Let me encourage you today to spend some time in the presence of your Father. For no other reason other than the fact that He’s longing to be with you, longing to give you what matters most, an eternal relationship with Him. The beauty is that found within His presence, within this relationship, is everything else you need. The miracle, breakthrough, anointing, songs from heaven, and authority you are believing for will come from the overflow of being with Him, He is the greatest gift.
